Nu Xi Omega Past and Present

Charter Date: December 6, 1980 ~ Serving Somerset & Middlesex Counties ~ Active Members: 62
The history of Nu Xi Omega chapter is a story of service to an ideal. The concept of a graduate chapter for members who live in Middlesex and Somerset counties was born in the summer of 1979 at an informal social gathering in Plainfield attended by Members Carol Patterson Anderson, Pamela Johnson, Debbie Macon, Drucilla Carson Wiggins and Gloria Grey Williams.

With 17 other members who heartily endorsed the idea, the women formed the Middlesex and Somerset Counties Alumnae Interest Group. In June 1980, the group learned from then-Regional Director Nellie Gaylord that all requirements for chapter status had been met.

Nu Xi Omega chapter has 4 active charter members and 3 active past presidents.  The chapter also has a member of the Year award in which one member is given the title yearly by her chapter members for going above and beyond "the good of the sisterhood and service to all mankind".

Nu Xi Omega has an incentive program that rewards Members for participation in community service, attendance at meetings and acts of kindness. The member with the most points at the end of the year receives $100.00 towards the next conference. Under member Connie Pizarro’s leadership we were challenged to NOT be clueless by collecting CLUES. Past President Andrea Moten asked us to POP by Polishing Our Pearls. Past President Rita Butler Holliday invited us to earn KEYS to the House of Nu Xi Omega by Kindly Encouraging Your Sorors in Service and Sisterhood. Immediate Past President Maria Cleveland gave us APPS to Apply, Approach and Applaud.
